HELP! A new planning application has been submitted for Tapton Experimental Garden

Garden entrance

The Secret Garden has so far been saved from redevelopment as a housing estate thanks to the BANG's vigorous and well-supported campaign to oppose inappropriate development of the site.

We now have a new developer - Taylor Wimpey - and a new development scheme for 96 houses.

This new scheme squeezes more houses onto the part of the site that is the important historic garden of Tapton Elms and the former University Botanic Garden. In effect it turns the clock back to the proposals we fought off back on 2007/8, at both the local planning board and the planning inspector's public inquiry.

Local residents are urged to look at these development proposals and to make their views known, either in writing to the planning officer Trevor Sullivan citing the planning application number 13/02948/FUL, or even better through the online planning system.

It's really easy to comment online, you can access the full plans and submit your comments by following this web link.

Your support
really counts!
BANG collected a total of 1675 signatures on a petition to save the Secret Garden and more than 200 people took the trouble to write to object to the planning applications in 2008. Many local people have donated time or money to the campaign to protect Taptonville Road and to save something of this historic garden for the local community to enjoy. Strong, visible community support is our best weapon for influencing the planning decision, so please add your voice.
